Random Stuff

This has been a busy week so far.  Tuesday I went to Dan's for a cookout.  The food was really good and I got to meet Angela's boy friend.  He seemed like a cool guy.  I brought the prom video that we watched and had a few good laughs.

Yesterday was our first softball game.  I think this years team might be better than last years.  We scored two runs in the first inning and did not get six runned each inning.  We did end up losing by the 12 run rule in the fifth inning though...  After the game a bunch of us headed over to Mad Mex.  It was pretty good and funny because I was just thinking about how I wanted to go to that place a few days before.  They had a new margarita (strawberry rhubarb) that I tried and it was pretty good.

It actually felt kinda nice to come home after school today with no plans.  After diner I went to Té Café to do some proofreading on my groups spring report.  Tea was good.

Recently I've been going to the gym myself since Shawn no longer works and goes while I'm in school.  I've been going to Skibo before school most days and must say that I am not happy with how it is going.  I've been lifting like shit lately and it really sucks.  It doesn't help that it's about 80 degrees in the gym even in the mornings.  Hopefully I will get out of this slump soon.

Tomorrow I have another softball game at 5:30 and then  Casey's going away party later on.  Should be a fun night.

I Love Limes

One thing I forgot to say is that I'm going to a picnic tomorrow at Dan's and I decided I was going to try to make a key lime pie.  What a pain in the ass zesting and juicing all of those little limes were.  I think the end product turned out good though. Can't wait to try it tomorrow!

The Unofficial Start of Summer

It was nice to have a three day weekend without having to worry about school at all the whole time!  Friday I went out with Erin to the Southside.  We hit up a few bars then came back to my place for some beers on the porch.

Saturday I did not do much during the day but when out for Kelsey's birthday at Bar Room that night.  It was cool and we even stopped at Antoon's on the way home...  The cool thing was we sat on my old porch steps just like old times.

Sunday I went to Tanger and headed over to check out the new Meadows Casino.  It was nicer than I expected but I ended up losing $17.  I walked around Squirrel Hill for a bit and then ended up going to Doc's Place with Carrie for a few beers.  She didn't want to study and I was board.  Perfect combo.  We were talking at the bar and it looks like she want to get Sandcastle Passes!  I was pretty excited because I didn't think anyone wanted to do this, so we are going to get them soon.

Today I went to go check out Allegheny Cemetery.  It was nowhere near as cool as I thought it was going to be for a old victorian cemetery, Homewood cemetery in Squirrel Hill is much better.  I will have to post pictures next time I take a walk through.  There were a few cool things though, here are some of my favorites:

I pressed  my camera up against the glass and got this cool shot:
This was just too cool not to take a picture of:

After the cemetery I stopped at PPG to pick up my work computer so I can use it at home over the summer  while checking email and whatnot.  Nothing really eventful happened today otherwise...kinda a lame Memorial Day.

The Strip

I love the Strip on a Saturday morning.

California Tacos

I had the best dinner that I've had for a while tonight.  I experimented with something I'm calling California Tacos.

The chicken was cooked with Malibu rub and the topping included lettuce, tomato, red onions, green bell peppers, carrots, cucumber, and white cheddar cheese.  I also threw together a sauce which was awesome!  It had mayonnaise, lemon juice, black pepper, kosher salt, cayenne pepper, hot sauce, and cumin.

Just thought I'd share this because it was awesome and you all should be jealous that I got to eat it!

A Robotic Bagpiper

Well I "graduated" on Sunday.  It is in quote marks because even though I walked I am not really done with school until August.  That is when I am officially done and graduated (notice there are no quote marks!)  The weather was a little cold but it was not too bad since I was wearing a cap and gown.  The university graduation was at the stadium and it was less than an hour and a half!  I was so excited about that.  The speaker was the CEO of Google and he gave a pretty interesting talk.

Immediately after the university graduation we all walked down to Carnegie Music Hall for the School of Computer Science graduation.  This one was long...  There were some cool parts though.  All of the professors up on stage walked on with light sabers  and the guy opening the ceremony talked about how all CMU graduations should officially have a bagpiper but there were none available.  Then he said that CMU was a world class robot organization, why not just make our own bagpiper!  And that's what they did, here is a video of him in action:

The rest of the ceremony dragged on but eventually I got my diploma sleeve.  When I opened it there was a note saying return to Nicole ASAP!  Sigh...I wish it really was a real diploma.

After that there was a reception but we did not end up staying.  Everyone was really hungry and antsy after that long time sitting that we went straight to dinner.  We ended up at P.F. Chang's in the Waterfront.  It was good and I had a nice time with mom, dad, and meem.

This week is a little strange.  This is my first official week as a full-time student.  I haven't been a full-time student since graduating from Pitt.  It feels a little strange now not having to go in to work.  This is going to be an interesting summer for sure.

Tonight we had a group meeting to work out some issues in the group.  I must say a feel a whole lot better about things now.  I hope that the professors feel the same way tomorrow during our faculty meeting.  After that Varnali, Paul, ZQ, and I went for ice cream at the soft serve place on Carson Street in Southside.  It was good.

Tomorrow starts the first official day of summer classes, even though I've already been working on stuff.  Should be an interesting day...

Vegas...After the Fact

A recap on my Las Vegas experience.

Erin came to pick me up Wednesday afternoon for a fun-filled trip to Las Vegas.  After a few short stops we made it and were on our way.  We found my brother while getting out luggage and then we were off to the Flamingo.  We got there and they were able to give us rooms that we on the same floor which worked out well.  That night we found the greatest cheep liquor store.  The girls each got a bottle of champagne and Mike and I got 2 24 oz. Miller Lites each.  We walked the strip for a while and ended up at Coyote Ugly in New York New York.  We were turned down so we walked back home and called it a night since everyone was pretty tired.

Thursday I woke up pretty early and had to walk 2.6 miles to get my tux at Men's Warehouse. It was a nice walk and I passed by some nice scenery until I had to walk through the ghetto at the very end.  The place opened at 10, I got there at 10:15 and there was already a big line.  Luckily it did not take very long though.  I got a cab back home and headed to the pool.  It was packed!!  I had to get a beach chair and put it on the sand volleyball court.  I was alone for a while because Mike was on business at the convention center and Erin and Lauren ended up getting lost in the desert while I was gone.  Eventually everyone came back and it was cool.

Thursday night we got some beer and had a power hour while we waited for Sara to come in.  When she arrived we soon departed for Jet Nightclub at the Mirage.  It was okay, we got to ge in for free and the girls shared their free drinks with us.
Friday we headed back to the pool but this time we tried the GO pool which was the "European Style" topless pool.  It had a DJ too.  Even though I had to pay for this pool it was worth it, they had really nice chairs and better drinks.  The only bad thing was I did not get to see any boobies.

Me and Erin had to then go to the reversal and dinner at the Venetian.  The dinner was really good.  That night we headed over to MGM to visit Amanda and her friend Chrissy.  They were there for the DMB concert.  The girls ended up going to Studio 54 which I wanted to go to but did not feel like it because no one else wanted to come out with me and I am not a big fan of going to clubs with only a small group.  Me and Mike ended up gambling with the other girls from MGM.  I lost of course as usual.  On the way home I decided to try Del Taco for the first time.  It was great.  I wish we had one of those here.

Saturday me and Mike returned MGM to hang out with Amanda and Chrissy at their pool.  I must say I like this pool better; a lot of young beautiful people instead of old fat ones like at our pool.  After that I had to hurry back to get ready for the wedding.

The wedding was nice.  Sara and Brian got married on a bridge at the Venetian and had the reception at one of Wolfgang Puck's restaurants there.  The food there was really good as well.  There was no dancing or anything at the reception but it was still cool to get to sit and talk to a bunch of people I haven't seen in a long time.

After the wedding we took a cab to the Palms to try out Ghost bar.  The line was 45 minutes with a $30 cover.  So we walked over to the Rio and went to Voodoo Lounge.  This place was great.  I think this was my favorite place of the whole trip.  It was on the 51st floor with no line and only a $20 cover (cheep for Vegas standards.)  The place was two floors the inside was loungey upstairs and a restaurant downstairs but the best part was outside.  It was also a two level outside.  The was a DJ and club like dance atmosphere with an awesome view of the strip and all surrounding Las Vegas.  You could literally see to wear the city ended and there was nothing left but desert!  It was awesome.  The staircase on the outside had small little sections where girls that worked their would dance.  The best part was the little floors that  were dancing on were clear.  I texted Amanda and she ended up coming out with Chrissy.  Such a cool place, we stayed until the closed at 4.  I was going to go back to MGM with Amanda and Chrissy but it was just not possible, I was so tired.

Back in the room I think I finally went to sleep around 5:30 after passing out while talking to Erin and Lauren like I did on a number of occasions this trip!

Sunday Mike and  I walked my tux back and then had to walk back to the hotel, that was terrible!  We ate at the Flamingo buffet which was mediocre at best and then headed to the airport.  It was a long flight back.  I ended up getting the Swine from it (j/k just a sore throat and stuffy nose.)  Thanks so much to Dan for picking me up at the airport so late!

Overall it was a good trip and I had a great time.  Thanks Mike for hanging out with me during it!

Ah, My Back!

Sunday I took my bike down to the Southside trail and road for about 13 miles. It was a little cold but not too bad.

Yesterday I spent the day at the lab working on this report for project. There is still a bunch of work to do with not so much time, I leave for Las Vegas tomorrow! I went to the gym yesterday to do legs/random shit and ended up hurting my back. I guess I did not stretch enough before I did legs press and now my lower back hurts. I can't even bend should have seen me trying to put my shoes on this morning! Hopefully it will be better by the time I get to Vegas or Erin is going to pissed.

Today is Cinco de Mayo so I hope to at lest go out for one drink if I can find the time. We'll see what's going on by the time I get home. If I don't get anymore submissions for the research paper by that time, I don't see why I can't go out for a little as long as I pack and go to the gym first.

Tomorrow I need to get this paper wrapped up. I hope I have everything by then because once I get on that plane, I know there will not be any time untill I get back. I'll be in the lab bright and early...should be fun! Then at 6:40 PM, I'm taking off, see ya later Pittsburgh!

It has a Nice Ride

Thursday I worked in Monroeville again for the second week in a row.  This time we were there to talk to sales guys about a new web portal my team and I built.  While in the Ville, I got some things done like going to Target and Big Lots.  Jason and I had lunch at Chick-fil-A again but this time I got the chicken sandwich and gotta eat shitty sometimes I guess.  On the way home I stopped at Shop n' Save for some groceries and remembered why I do not like that place.  I only spent around 30 bucks because they didn't really have anything I wanted.  Than night I spent some more time on the sections that I am doing for my group report.

Friday I went to work and over my lunch break I got the first haircut since I stopped buzzing my hair in the beginning of March.  It looks much better now thanks to Mary.  When I got home I decided to skip the gym so I could ride my bike instead.  This was the first real ride I got to take.  I did the Beachwood Boulevard bike lane and a couple other side streets here and there for a total of about 5.3 miles (I get to know this now thanks to the speedometer that Mike got me!)  The biked rides pretty nice and I am happy with it so far.  The only bad thing was my legs were killing me. Now I remember why I stopped doing legs at the gym last summer.  O well, I am going to continue doing them this year and just let my body get used to it.  It can only help right?

Today I just got back from the gym and did an "overall" workout with Shawn.  I saw Lauren there for the first time since winter.  She is leaving for good on Monday so I had to say my goodbyes.  I hate how everyone is leaving.  I am pretty sad about loosing more friends but I am going to try to start looking at this as an opportunity to make more.  There is nothing I can do about people leaving so I might as well make the best out of it.

I'm not sure what I'm going to be up to tonight, probably going out, but we'll see.  The rents my be stopping by today so maybe I will get to see them as well.

Tomorrow I am hoping to be able to stop by the mall for a little bit to see if I can get some Vegas clothes.  You have to dress a little nice there than in the burgh when you go out, and I want to be prepared.  I can't believe I will be there in 4 days!  Viva Las Vegas!  :-)
