Red Bull

Mmmm I love Red Bull and it is just what I needed today. As an added
bonus I was looking at the ingredients and saw that they took out high
fructose corn syrup!

Opening Of The New Boulevard Of The Allies Bridge - Return To Regular
Routings & New Temporary Devia
Effective: 11/25/2008 till 3/22/2009
Occurence: Daily

Effective With The First Service Units On Each Route On Tuesday, November
25, 2008

PennDOT and its contractor, Joseph B. Fay Company have announced that the
majority of the work related to the installation of the new Boulevard of the
Allies Bridge spanning Forbes Avenue in Oakland is complete, as well as
improvements to all approach ramps and Forbes Avenue below the bridge, and
that the bridge will open to regular traffic next week.

On Monday, November 24, 2008, Governor Ed Rendell, PennDOT, Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, Allegheny County, City of Pittsburgh and other officials will
hold dedication ceremonies and an official ribbon cutting on the bridge at
approximately 2:00 PM Monday. After ceremonies are completed (no set time)
the bridge will open to normal motor vehicle traffic.

To avoid confusion for bus passengers, due to the late day opening, all
buses presently on detour will remain so for the duration of the service day
on Monday, November 24, 2008.

With the first service units on each route on Tuesday, November 25, 2008,
operators will depending on the route affected, return to their regular
routings (some of which have been out of service for over two decades), or
until language can be placed in the March 2009 operators pick, will assume
new routings via new "detours" included in this notice.

As of the morning of Tuesday, November 25, 2008, Detour Notices #08-004-0
and #08-017-0 will be discontinued.

Please use caution when returning to regular route and new deviations as new
traffic patterns will be established in numerous locations, (including as
part of the project a new bus-only left turn lane and signal from the
outbound bridge to Craft Avenue) and all motorists will require a few days
to adjust to new traffic patterns.

OMG Mancini's just opened a store Downtown in the old Jenny Lee Backery!

I Miss Summer Already

I cant't believe that it is already fall! Man did this summer go by fast. It is already dark in the morning when I wake up to go to work. Temperature wise it has been okay still during the day, nights are a little chilly, and mornings are cold. I know this is nothing compaired to winter but it makes me think the it is not that far away.

I failed my first group methods homework yesterday which was a little disapointing and somewhat surprising. I have a test coming up on Monday that I guess I better study for now. I'm not too concerned about this first homework...there is nothing I can do about it now anyways. John said that this was the hardest so that is good to know. I have a feeling life is going to start to get crazy again. These last two weeks have been kinda nice but we'll have to see how it will go from here. Either way I'll get though it.

Trees

It's good to be back at Trees.

Life Update

I started my second and (hopefully) final year of grad school at CMU. I am in a project group that is working with robots so I finally get to tell people that I work with robots, even though everyone automatically assumes that anyway when I tell them I am in HCI at CMU. That project finally started to pickup and we are able to get data from multiple sources.

Work is going well. I am starting some work on a customized portal that will allow employees to see things specific to their job and hide other items that are not relevant to them. It has been a slow start but I should be getting a pilot started soon in Ohio.

Weekend life has been good so far this semester not too much worlk. I hope that will last. I went to Octoberfest last weekend which was really fun, check Facebook for pictures.

Robot City

Sent from my iPhoneSunday I got to go to the old Jones and Locklin Steel Mill brownfield
site which CMU now has a place call Robot City for testing of robots.
The robots were really cool but I was really interested in all of the
history in the buildings that I was standing in. You could still see a
lot of the old infristructure like rail lines and old buildings. It
was really cool and I would not mind going back at some point.

NASA

Heeeeeeeeeelllooo!! This post is dedicated to all of my avid NASA readers. Thanks for the support guys and sorry my posts slowed down I diddn't think I had many readers but now that I know I will continue with all of my random posts. Here is one I wanted to do the other day...

I was on the bus in the morning on my way to work as usual accept it was really really cold for some reason. It was so cold that when I got off of the bus my glasses fogged up! Isn't that only supposed to happen in the winter when your going from outside to inside, not the other way around in the summer? Turn your damn air conditioner down!

Fart!

I'm standing at the bus stop and all of a suddon this guy just rips one really lound and then says "woops" I didd't meen to do that." hahaha

Ahhh!

This morning I almost died on my way to work. I was riding my bike along the Boulevard of the Allies stopped and a red light waiting my turn. The light changed to green and I started to go, then some asshole flies through the red light and almost took me out...he just missed me. People need to pay more attention. Then I love this part, he stops his big old truck after he is through the intersection...nice job asshole!

Dunkin' Donuts is Pissing me off

Dunkin' Donuts is building a new store in market square and I have been checking it every morning to see if it is ready. Today the case of donuts was totally full, but the door was locked. WTF?!?!?!?!?!?! Then someone told me they do not open until the 30th. So I was thinking ya right the place is ready now. I went in to work for an hour then decided to check back. Apparently everyone wants to go in, there is now a sign on the door saying that they are opening on the 30th and are in "training" right now. WTF?! First of all that is wasteful as hell and second of all who needs 2 weeks to train to work at Dunkin' Donuts? By this point I really wanted a donut so I went over to crappy Jenny Lee, and as usual their donuts even looked gross (I don't know why everyone thinks they are so great.) So finally I decided to get a Cinnamon twist from Einstein's.

Dunkin' Donuts...you need to cover up your windows if you are going to have a store full of donuts and not let people buy them. I was really excited for you to come but now you made me mad. Don't worry, I will still be there on opening day though...

Body Fat

Today Bally's was at the arts festival measuring body fat. I am happy to say that I came in at 7.7% which was way below anyone else in line. That made my day. The people from Bally's were impressed and wanted me to join but I let them know I get to go to good old Skibo for "free" at CMU.

Free Breakfast

I got free breakfast today from Wendy's in Market Square today. Not the best breakfast in the world, but not bad for free.
I love working by Market Square they have cool stuff like free breakfast from time to time.

First Softball Game

Yesterday we had our first softball game. There were a bunch of people who actually made it out so it ended up being pretty fun even though we lost 20-2. The first part of the game was kind crappy since it was raining and we were soaked, but then the rain stopped after an inning or so. I thing this is the first HCI team that scored in their first game so that was exciting. We became better and better by the end of the game so it looks like we might win a few by the end of the season.

A Long Walk

Sunday I was finally able to do something that I haven't gotten to do in a long time, go on a nice long random walk. I started out by walking through Schenley Park to Schenley Plaza to see the yard sale they were having (I was not impressed.) I ended seeing Lauren sunbathing in the lawn while she was studying. After that I walked to Pitt's upper campus...wow a lot has changed. The UMPC has a bunch of new signs as well as the university, hills around the Pete are all landscaped, there is a new dormn Panther Hall, and Trees is under construction. I was curious about the area behind Trees (as I always have been) but decided not to go up because of the "no trespassing" signs. I then took the walk around the building to The Hill and started up to Center Ave. I then decided to take some random steps up to another section of The Hill. I walked for a while and ended up seeing some nice houses (beind the Mariott) and the took some more steps down to North Oakland. I was about to walk back home when I thought I should try Oh Ya. I walked to Shadyside and it was well worth the walk...chocolate ice cream, vegan mint chocolate chip ice cream, fresh espresso grinds, ground oreo, and crushed pepperint...great! Then I headed home through Chattam University and all the awesome houses up there back home to Squirrel Hill. It ended up being a nice three hour walk but my legs were pretty tired afterword. Hope to take another random walk to some other random locations sometime soon!

Bees

There were hundredes if not thousands of bees on this One Way sign right next to One PPG today.

Hills!

I saw a Hills buggy today outside of the old Murphy's in Market Square! For those not from around Pittsburgh, Hills was the best store. I remember going there when I was little getting the free kids popcorn and playing Nintendo in the electronics section the whole time my parents shopped. Then Wal*Mart came and ruined everything!

Sunday, June 1, 2008

Oh Ya...

Wow, I tried Oh Ya today in Shadyside and it was some of the best ice cream I have had in a long time.  I got a custom swirl that had chocolate ice cream, vegan mint chocolate chip ice cream, ground espresso, ground Oreos, and crushed peppermint candy.  It was great.  Anyone who wants to try this place let me know, I will be up for going any time!

Let's Go Pens?

Well the Pens have their third game in the Stanly Cup Finals tonight. Hopefully they will be able to win, or at least score one goal! I still cannot believe that they played 2 full games without scoring at all! Although I am not usually a big hockey fan I would still like to see the Penguins win it tonight but more importantly win the entire series.

Check out this nasty burn mark on my face from pizza cheese! Lame right?

Still too cold

It is still extremely cold for mid to late May. For the past 2 weeks it has been nothing but cold and rainy and you can forget about seeing the sun. It feels more like late fall than spring. Come on Pittsburgh I want some good weather, this is starting to get depressing. Tomorrow is only supposed to be 58! At least the end is in sight, starting Friday it is supposed to be nicer and it also looks like we may have a decent Memorial Day weekend as well which I am certainly looking forward to.

Time to go back already

Well my "summer vacation" is almost over.  This week went by too fast!  I was a little disappointed that it was so cold and rainy the whole time but what are you going to do?  I did get to see a bunch of people that I never get to see though.  I had dinner with Jess, Amy, and Mike at Qdoba on Monday, I had dinner with Angela on Tuesday at Cuzumel and then we went to see Jackie and Madalynn.  I picked up Gernelle from the airport on Thursday and got some cool British birthday presents from her.  Went out with the PT crew Friday and Saturday and today Sara is making me dinner at her new house.  Tomorrow school resumes with a meeting for my group study at 9:30..still have to schedule a meeting for my independent study hopefully for Monday as well.  Grad school is almost 1/2 over!  :-)

This is where I spend most of my time durring the day working away on my multiple computers.

The End is Near

School is almost over for the spring semester. I only have one more presentation to give on Thursday, after that I am off for a little more than a week. Not sure what I'm doing yet, any suggestions? Then after that the summer semester starts. I will not be taking classes but doing an independant study and a group study. The independant study will inolve me analysing user data and writing a CHI paper and the group study will involve me working with a team to make a "smart bag" for families. I'm hopeful that all will go wel this summer and I will still have time to do everything that I want to do. I'm still deciding on the Sandcastle pass...it doesn't look like many people are intrested this year. O well, can't wait till Tursday after 4:30!

Summer School Blues

The spring semester is almost over...May 8th is my last presentation. Then I am off for a week until it's time for summer school to start. This is the first time that I have ever gone to summer school in my life and let me tell you I am not looking forward to it. I cannot imagine having to sit inside an do work while it is going to be so nice outside. To make things even worse, CMU basically offers nothing in the summertime. I have been trying to schedule two classes for a while now with no luck. At least for one of them I am going to do an independent study and that seems to be taken care of for now. Am am on the waiting list for about 3 other classes and have 1 mini actually scheduled. I will just be happy when I get all of this schedualing crap worked out. At least I will have one week of "summer vacation" it better not rain!

I just uploaded my pictures last night.  There are pictures from Florence, Pisa, and Rome.  I'm really glad that we got to make the two day trips to Pisa and Rome.  Rome was really nice!  Here is the link to my pictures:

I made it to Italy and have all of my bags!  The flights were long and I almost fell asleep multiple times after I got here but now I am wide awake and ready to go...more to come later.

Bacon

Is that a piece of bacon on my pancake and syrup cupcake?

Almost there...

I am so close to being in Europe I just can't stand it. Only two more days to go! I still have a bunch of stuff to do until then and will be glad when that is all over. I have one last BID meeting tonight and hopefully t will be done fast since the rents are also coming to send me off tonight. Then at some point my brother wants to get a drink with me as well before the night is over. I have to make sure that I get my last UAR done for PUI somewhere in there as well. Tomorrow I have a full day of school and will need to pack at some point. I hope I remember everythng...there is so much more to remember when going international. Friday I leave but not before I have 3/4 of a day of work. I am going to drag all my luggage on the bus to work then leave for the airport from there. There is a bunch to finish at wor including finishing up my logo redesign that Corporate Communications bustd me for because it did not follow standards. That's OK though because I agreed with them
that it was bad. Then at 3:50 it is goodby Pittsburgh helo Florence...well after some ever so slight stops in Philly and Paris...o man it's gonna be a long two days.

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Empty?

If this were Pitt it would be filled with girls in bikinies right now...

Air Conditioning Already?

I am on the bus right now and am pretty cold and a pretty nice day...why? The stupid air conditioner is on..and it's only March! Why do public places absolutely insist on freezing you to death when it's not even hot out? Maybe it's just me but i hate airconditioning unless it is really hot out. It is uh nicer to have the wndows open and actually enjoy the nice weather..what do you think? Over the course of the entire summer last year I think I used the air conditioning in my apartment less than 10 days. Anyway sorry for the rant but i would like to enjoy a 60 degree day air condition free.

Spring

How great is it that spring is funally here? I love that it's staying light out longer, that the sun is actually coming out and of course that it is warmer. The onther great part about spring is the school is almost over (for this semester anyways). I only have one project left in BID, and a project and a final in PUI. Then i will have a couple weeks off until the summer session...this is going to be intresting...first time I ever took classes in the summer, hopefully al will go well and I will still find lots of time to be outside, my only issue will be convincing my fellow CMU group members that outside on a nice day is better than group meetngs... :-)

Only 4 more days left until I go to Italy..I can't believe that it is almost here.

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Wow

I just made a cross between a Chi Tea Latte and a Hot Chocolate. It is pretty good so I thought I would share.

The Sun

What a great day! It was only supposed to be 50 but it ended up being somewhere around 60. To make things even better Gernelle brought me Spice Island for lunch today...mmmmm. I will miss her but at least I will get to see her in Italy (only 9 days away!!) Tonigt I want to try and finish my PUI so I can go meet some of the new MHCI students for next year at dinner. I hope they are as cool as this years students since I will be with them all next year. I think I may have to take out my porch furniture today...wait am I trying to procrastinate again..this sounds like a trap.

Easter Weekend

This weekend was pretty good. I got to go to one of my favorite restaurants twice! Spice Island Teahouse :-) I could eat there every day check it out if you ever around Atwood Street in Oakland, it may look shady from the outide but trust me when I say if you go inside you will not be disapointed. We went to Charlie Merdock's again but this time with more MHCIers. It was a great time we even got Gernelle up on the stage doing i'm a little tea pot for her birthday haha. Got to drive to my parents and ack yesterday with the top down (with the heat on high and my coat on of curse) that was nice I can't wait for warm weather. Easter dinner was pretty good I just wish that it wasn't as rushed as it was...damn you PUI! Angela made a surprise appearance which made me really happy. All and all it was a good weekend.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Jamaica

Check out my Jamaican pizza from Camille's. You know Gem and Gerrnelle will be home sick after seeing this. Nothing like tradtional food from the islands. :-)

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Spring Break

Well this spring break was a lot better than I thought it would be. I was never board once and had plenty to do each night...I'm not sure how much relaxing or sleeping I did, but that's OK who needs that anyways? I got to go to Matrix for the first time in probably around 2 years, it was great, I really miss that place. One of the best parts about the break was that I was not in the lab or I did not look at schoolwork once :-) (although I am not going to like myself this week because of that). Last night was reading all night, tonight will be working on a small presentation with Jaanus, and starting my programming assignment...then tomorrow...back to school. Only 18 days left till CHI!!

Monday, March 10, 2008

Great Weekend

This weekend was pretty good.  It is finally spring break and HER came to visit.  On Friday we decided to go to Charley Merdock's with Gernelle and Diana.  It was great, Daryl was even there from The Office and played a few songs.  After that we went to Eat n' Park and I had Grilled Stickies alamode.  Saturday we had breakfast with Megan and Justin at Kings in "the ville".  Then went and played with Nikki a little, she is one crazy dog when you fist walk into the house.  Then Saturday night, Erin came out with us!  We had Margarita's at Mad Mex and then went to Town Tavern for some dancing and then somehow ended up at Eat 'n Park again (this time I had a chicken quesadilla.  Even though I have to go to work tomorrow, I don't even care, once I get home I will not have anything to worry about with school!  :-)

Zzzzzzzzz.....

Last night I got home at 4 AM(!) after working on my groups wine website since about 4:30 PM the day before.  Wow, am I tired, I got up at 6:30 to start with my PPG work before I have to go in to class and give a presentation.  Thank God I have an espresso machine at home!  I think I will also be stopping to get a Red Bull before class...mmm...Red Bull...  I think what I am trying to say here is F.U. CMU!

On a positive note only a few more hours to go until it is officially Spring Break!

Party hard at work during our group meeting

Crazy Time

Wow, this week has been pretty crazy with BID and PUI and not to mention work! I took my PUI midterm yesterday and it turned out to be not as bad as I thought it would be. Now all I have to do it get this BID wine project done and I should be all set for SPRINGBREAK next week! Here is a link to one of our BID pages:

OK so I haven't had a real post here in a while so here is the rundown of what's going on right now.
Last night I went to my brother's girlfriend's surprise birthday party.  There were so many people there, I guess about 40 people all packed in to two little rooms in his house.  There were almost two wrecks that night that involved my car because he lives on the South Side Slopes and his street was very icy and is of course very steep.  First as I was parking I got stuck on ice and could not reverse, someone had to come move their car, then after I parked the same thing happened to someone else only my car was the parked one this time!  I did not get to stay that long though because I had to come back here to work on BID...
On a good note I got done with PUI a lot earlier than I thought on Thursday night.  Now all I have to do is comment the code and turn it in.
Spring break is coming up on Friday and I will not have to worry about school for 1 who week, I can't wait!  HER is coming to visit the first weekend of break as well.  That should be fun I have not sean him in a while.
Finally, I am pretty impressed with myself because I have stuck with doing cardio along with the lifting that I usually do.  I am actually starting to like cardio now believe it or not.  Me and Lauren are supposed to do the Cathedral steps sometime this week.  That should be interesting, she is a hard core runner and will probably be at the top before I even get halfway there.  O well it will be nice to actually move for a change while I am running than staying in some stationary place on a machine...can't wait until it gets warm!  66 on Monday...sorry I do not have the Celsius conversion for that!

That's about it for now.

Peace.
